Cologne: honor for musicians and ex-Fööss – Tommy Engel gets a star | Regional
Cologne – Now Tommy Engel (72) also has his first star of his own: yesterday the Tanzbrunnen honored him with the Cologne award on the “Wall of Fame”.
It has been a crowd puller at this traditional Cologne open-air venue for a decade. Engel’s ex-colleagues Bläck Fööss with four stars (decades), whose frontman he was from 1970 to 1994, hang diagonally above the musician and singer.
“You can easily add two and a half little asterisks to that,” he joked on the spot.
Driveway to the star: Tommy came with his wife Marlene (63) in an original replica of the legendary Morgan three-wheeler (tricycle)
Engel and his band open the Tanzbrunnen season on May 14th. “We have Arno Steffen and Purple Schulz as guests,” revealed Tommy on Thursday. “We’re promising some classics and maybe a song from the new album, which is due out in the fall.”
Is there a song about Corona? Bandleader Jürgen Fritz (69): “Nope. For us, the pandemic is not an issue in music. But we take a clear stand against the war in Ukraine.”
And Engel adds: “We dug up the old Fööss title ‘unger’m Adler’ for this. It’s an anti-war song about the stone eagle in Cologne’s Friedenspark.”
Tickets cost 31.40 euros (standing). Advance sales are on. Because of the war in Ukraine, the dancing fountain does not have the traditional fireworks.
