Ukraine provides cultural assistance to assess the extent of heritage restoration – Tkachenko
The International Center for the Study, Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) will provide Ukraine with funding to assess the scale of the post-war restoration of cultural heritage.
This was stated by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko TelegramsUkrinform reports.
“It was agreed that the International Center for Research, Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) will provide financial support for assessing the scale of post-war restoration for Ukraine’s cultural heritage. In addition, the following will be held: first aid trainings on cultural heritage in emergencies and during military conflicts; consultations on conservation and restoration of materials, “Tkachenko wrote.
According to him, the next step will be the preparation of a memorandum between the Heritage Emergency Response Initiative, ICCROM and the ICIP on the establishment of a joint Ukraine-ICCROM group to save the Ukrainian heritage.
As it turned out, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy as of April 23 recorded 242 episodes of war crimes of Russian invaders against the cultural heritage of Ukraine.
The ICCP reminded that the destruction of cultural heritage sites is a war crime under the 1954 Hague Convention. It is possible to record crimes of the Russian Federation on a national platform: https://culturecrimes.mkip.gov.ua/. All the collected materials will be used as evidence for criminal proceedings against Russian criminals.
