Tonight at the Montelupo Hall in Domagnano the presentation of the “Bioparco Apistico” project of the Republic of San Marino
It will rise within the park of Montecchio and will constitute a garrison for the protection and conservation of the native bee, the Apis mellifera Ligustica. Thanks to the work of protecting biodiversity, the project is included in the action set of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development.
The first Beekeeping Bioparc of the Republic of San Marino will be built inside the Montecchio park of the San Marino City Castle. It will be a place dedicated to the knowledge and dissemination of issues related to biodiversity and the virtuous relationship between man and nature, promoting their protection, or rather the conservation of the native bee of the San Marino territory.
The initiative, promoted by the Sammarinesi Beekeepers Cooperative in collaboration with the Terra di San Marino Consortium and the Soroptimist Single Club, will make use of the technical advice of the initiative of the expert Marco Valentini and the support of the Secretariat of State for the Territory and Environment. The same promoters will present the project to the citizens this evening, inside the Montelupo Room in Domagnano. Appointment at 21.
The promoters explained how, together with the Land and Environment Department and the Environmental and Agricultural Resources Management Office, nine publicly owned sites were evaluated in which to build the Biopark. The final choice, the result of a synergy between the best ecosystem for the survival of bees, the accessibility of visitors and the didactic use, was precisely the park of Montecchio, in an area of 3,000 square meters along the naturalistic path that passes through.
The objectives of the Bee Biopark will be multiple: the development of the flora and fauna knowledge of citizenship and partesque schoolchildren, the promotion of economic activities related to agriculture and “green tourism”, as well as the protection and conservation of the biodiversity of pollinating insects, you have never been in such a crisis in recent years. The park will be a conservation area for the indigenous honey bee subspecies and therefore useful for the genetic conservation of San Marino bees. A common good, where wild pollinators will be able to multiply at will and help with general repopulation and increase biodiversity.
The route will be structured in such a way as to make visitors understand the long and exciting journey together that man and bee have had over the centuries. Ancient and recent structures for the breeding of bees will thus be admirable, passing from the Top Bar to the Arnie Warrè, from the Arnie Dadant to the rustic Bugno. By scanning a QR code with their smartphone, each visitor will be able to access the vital parameters of the hives and follow all the historical data.
Stefano Canti (Secretary of State for the Territory, Environment, Agriculture, Civil Protection and relations with AASLP): “Thanks to the great contribution of biodiversity protection that this work will produce, it is included in the set of actions of National Strategy for Sustainable Development of San Marino, a document that puts in place the actions to achieve the objectives set by the UN 2030 Agenda. “
