PostNord and Warpin have created a series of virtual learning modules that are available via virtual reality headsets (VR). Employees can learn tasks such as sorting packages and driving vehicles in the simulated learning environment.
PostNord’s head of education, Patrik Ågren, explained why the postal company adopted this progressive approach, that it helps people on board quickly.
In addition, VR learning modules are up to 80% more efficient than e-learning because they deepen employees in the work environment. They save time and money compared to traditional classroom training as an added benefit.
Warpin’s co-founder and CEO Emma Riddestad said that many believe that the applications of VR and AR are social, gaming and entertainment. But she believes the real benefits will be improved treatment, education and experience.
Ridderstad gave an example of research on cognitive therapy where people can train in a safe environment.
Mainstream companies continue to adopt the metaverse
While PostNord’s interaction with the virtual world does not extend beyond training employees, other regular companies go all the way.
One example is United Postal Services (UPS), which plans to enter the metaverse with virtual shipping services.
In April, the company filed several patent applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The applications cover several virtual goods and services that the company wants to offer.
In addition to the shipping industry, companies like Mastercard are also exploring how to get into the meta-verse. To date, the financial giant has filed 15 non-fungal tokens (NFT) and meta-related patents.
The sports world is also keen to reap the benefits of the virtual world, with English Premier League club Manchester City announces plans to build the Etihad studio in the meta verse. Through this initiative, the innovative team tries to let millions of fans around the world enjoy football matches in an immersive environment.
