Roberta Metsola highlights Portugal’s “positive role” in the EU and plans to visit the country – Sociedade
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, in an interview with the Lusa agency the “positive and active role” of Portugal in the Union (EU), announcing that she will visit the country, which will happen in the autumn.
“I think that Portugal has been playing a very positive and community role in the EU and in different institutions”, says Roberta Metsola in an interview with Lusa, in Brussels, the day before completing 100 days in office.
According to the Maltese, Portugal was successful in responsible times, such as during her presidency [do Conselho da União Europeia]”, in the first half of 2021, marked by the covid-19.
Claiming to have “worked very closely, vice president responsible for national parliaments”, with political leaders, Roberta Metsola noting the “great work that has been done by the Portuguese parliament, the Assembly of the Republic”, as well as the meetings “with the Prime Minister Minister Costa, in which there were excellent conversations”.
Asked if he has plans to visit Portugal, the President of the European Parliament says he is “very anxious” to do so, announcing that it “will happen for sure”.
A source from the office of the president of the European assembly tells Lusa that Roberta Metsola’s visit to Portugal will not take place in the autumn.
In mid-March, the Prime Minister, António Costa, participated in Brussels in a high-level president’s conference on the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism and in a meeting with the new Metsola.
António Costa, exercise of the Council of the EU in the semester of 2021, during which he creates the first government of Recovery and Resilience with the first president of Parliament, David Sassoli, while he died last January.
In an interview scheduled by the Republic of Ukraine, Roberta highlighted the unprecedented political democracy of the people of Ukraine.

Roberta Met half of the current assembly was elected, in mid-January last, president in the second half of the current assembly of the legislative assembly after the 24th European elections.
At 43 years old, Roberta Metsola is the youngest president of the European Parliament, after becoming MEP in 2013, by the European People’s Party.
