The media committee approved the candidates for the head of RTVS
By 15 June, the committee is to propose a proposal for the Director General of RTVS with its opinion to the National Council. The election is scheduled to take place on June 22, and a possible re-election on June 29.
The Media Committee approved the regular rules of the public hearing and the establishment of an expert committee of the committee for the public hearing. “He has a significant qualitative selection process,” Kristián Čekovský (OĽANO), chairman of the parliamentary media committee, said about the role of the expert commission. The members of the expert commission should be representatives of the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS), academia and culture, non-governmental organizations, the disabled, national minorities, the church, domestic and foreign journalists. Čekovský wants to present details about the rules of the public hearing and the creation of the expert commission at a press conference in the morning.
A call for candidates for the RTVS Director-General shall be submitted to Parliament’s Media Committee no later than 90 days before the Director-General’s last term. The term of office of the current head of telephony, Jaroslav Rezník, will expire at the beginning of August. The term of office of the Director-General of RTVS is five years.
The General Director is elected by the National Council of the Slovak Republic on the proposal of the Parliamentary Committee for Culture and Media, the proposal is based on a public hearing of the registered candidates. The advantages of candidate development is the RTVS management project. The public hearing is broadcast live on the website of the National Council of the Slovak Republic.
