Industry: Optimism, but also concern
Business
Despite the Ukraine war, Salzburg’s industry remains optimistic, but expects increasing tension. This is shown by a current survey by the Salzburg Industry Association. The order situation is currently steady – but the second half of the year is likely to be more difficult.
In particular, the high raw material and energy prices and a possible complete stop to the supply of gas from Russia are causing many industrial entrepreneurs in Salzburg to frown. In addition, there is the fear of further material and delivery difficulties, says the President of the Salzburg Industrial Association (IV), Peter Unterkofler.
Instead of vague emergency scenarios, what is needed now are sophisticated plans that are integrated into business stakeholders. The coming six months will have a long-term impact on the economic situation in Austria and all of Europe. Although the majority of domestic industrial companies are still optimistic about the future, only ten percent of the companies surveyed described the earnings situation as good, says Unterkofler.
2021 was a top year for Salzburg’s industry
For almost 80 percent, the current economic situation is average. Around 30 percent of those expected to expect losses in the future, complains the President of the IV in Salzburg.
How the situation actually developed remains to be seen. Despite the pandemic, 2021 was the best year for the industry in the past 20 years. In January, however, the industry only had muted expectations for this year.
