Honda boss regrets Portuguese GP: “we have a lot to improve”
With the first three Hondas in 6th, 7th and 9th places, the automaker’s MotoGP boss Alberto Puig regretted the presentation he had in Portugal on Sunday. The Spaniard said his team found it right to find time on the track, and acknowledges that there is a lot of work behind the scenes in the upcoming races.
“It was not an easy race. We don’t have the perfect set-up and we probably needed more time to understand our bike at this track,” said Puig.
“It certainly wasn’t consistent and they were allotted enough time for the same conditions, because the other riders were fast with the same amount of time in the same conditions. We have to keep working and exploring the possibilities that lie ahead.”
“The positive point is that we are two points close to the drivers’ championship lead, but the reality is that our performance was not as good as we had hoped. Finishing 16 seconds behind the winner is not the goal. This is not good for us, and we have to improve.”
“Now we go to Jerez, a circuit where our drivers are fast. We have to wait and see what the situation is, make a better race and try to understand if we are not with the group in the race. Portimão showed that we have to improve our bike even more”.
