Genoa dies at 34 but manages to give birth to her baby girl. The family says yes to organ donation
From a tragedy that upsets the life of a small town in La Spezia to a hope for some patients waiting for a transplant.
Ylenia Bardi, a 34-year-old from Pignone in the eighth month of pregnancy did not survive the cerebral hemorrhage that hit her last Friday. She died at the San Martino hospital but the doctors managed to give birth to her baby girl who now, although constantly monitored, seems to be fine.
Ylenia’s family has given their consent to the removal of organs which will save many suspended lives at this time.
A black ribbon as a sign of mourning appeared on the Facebook page of the Municipality of Pignone. The President of the Region Giovanni Toti wanted to recall the story of the woman: “she was about to become a mother but, unfortunately, she did not have time to see her little girl born. However, with an emergency caesarean in the eighth month, the doctors of the San Martino hospital in Genoa managed to save their daughter Greta, who fortunately is well. Despite the immense pain, Ylenia’s family, with great generosity, decided to donate the woman’s organs. A gesture that we hope to save other lives. My deepest condolences and the embrace of all Liguria go to father Simone, little Greta and the whole community of Pignone ”.
