Statistical Bulletin I quarter 2022
The Information Technology, Data and Statistics Office communicates the summary of the main updates of the statistical data relating to:
• Population:
At 31 March 2022 the resident population was equal to 33,705 units (+ 0.3% compared to March 2021) and the present population, including residents, amounted to 34,960 (+ 0.6% compared to March 2021). Analyzing the development of the population present in the last twelve months, it is possible to note that San Marino citizens have increased by 117 units and represent 80.7% of the population. Italian citizens represent 15.2% of the population and have increased by 86 units, while inhabitants with citizenships other than those listed above (4.1% of the population) have decreased by 8 units. The live births from January to March 2022 amounted to 44 (-12 compared to the same period of 2021), the deaths were 74, in diseases of 16 units compared to the first quarter of 2021. The most common cause of death is linked to the system circulatory, about 30% of the total, while the deaths due to the Coronavirus or its consequences are 17, equal to 23% of the total. The natural balance for the first three months of 2022 is negative by 30 units, last year it was equal to -34 units. There were 15 marriages celebrated, where at least one spouse is a San Marino citizen, from January to March 2022 (4 more than in the first quarter of 2021), of which only one was celebrated with a religious rite. There are 14,612 families, 81 more than in the same period of the previous year, with an average number of members equal to 2.3. In the first quarter of 2022 there were 88 immigrants, most of them coming from Italy (64 immigrants), as well as the citizenship of immigrants (51 individuals have Italian citizenship). The emigrants amount to 51 individuals, of which 42 have chosen Italy as their destination. There are 38 emigrants with San Marino citizenship and 9 with Italian citizenship.
• Companies:
The total number of companies present and operating in the Republic, as of March 31, 2022, is equal to 5,066 units, recording, compared to March 31, 2021, an increase of 146 companies (+ 3%). Analyzing the trend of the last calendar year, there is an increase in the number of companies in almost all sectors, in particular the positive balance of: “Commerce” (+50 units equal to + 4.6%), “Business Professional, Scientific and Technical “(+38 units equal to + 3.9%),” Rental, Travel Agencies, Business support services “(+10 workers equal to + 5.6%) and” Education “(+ 10 units equal to + 22.7%). There was a change in the number of companies in the “Manufacturing” sector equal to +4 units. In March 2022, the most widespread legal form is the corporate one with 2,870 units, followed by freelance activities with 723 units and companies with 369 units. Most of the companies in our area are small, in fact 43.2% of the total has 1 to 9 employees and 50.5% are non-employees.
• Tourism:
Parking tourism, from January to March 2022, recorded 14,579 arrivals (+ 197% compared to 2021) for a total of 24,539 overnight stays (+ 171%), with an average of 1.68 nights spent for each person who arrived. Comparing the arrivals of the quarter with those of the same period of 2019, there is a value in line with the pre-pandemic period, with a slight decrease in the number of nights spent which are lower by -2.6%. 95% of the tourists who in 2022 chose to stay in San Marino came from Europe, Italy is the country of origin of the majority of tourists (80% of the total).
• Transportation:
As of March 31, 2022, the total number of vehicles registered in the Republic was 52,614 (99 vehicles fewer in the last year) and vehicle registrations, 662 in the first three months of 2022, recorded an increase of 131 units (+ 25%) compared to the first quarter of 2021; increase attributable to cars, which from January to March 2022 reached 476 registrations, 97 more than in the same period of 2021. Electric or hybrid cars registered in the first quarter are 98 (+48 compared to 2021), equal to 20.6 % of car registrations. In the first quarter of 2022, 115 two-wheeled vehicles were registered (+33 compared to the previous year) and 71 work vehicles, 1 more than in the same period of 2021.
• Employment / unemployment:
At 31 March 2022 the total workforce amounted to 23,192 units, compared to 31 March 2021 there was an increase of 672 units (+ 3%). There are 17,093 employees in the private sector and, together with those in the public sector, they represent 89.7% of the workforce. The other components of the workforce are represented by 1,597 self-employed workers (6.9% of the workforce) and 795 total unemployed (3.4%), of which 497 are unemployed in the strict sense. Employees in the private sector in the last year have increased by 994 units (+ 6.2%); the sectors that recorded the most consistent increase are: “Manufacturing activities” (+360 workers equal to + 5.5%), “Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles “(+281 workers equal to + 10.6%),” Accommodation and Catering Services Activities “(+102 workers equal to + 11.7%),” Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities “( +91 workers at + 10.3%) and “Rental, Travel Agencies, Business support services” (+45 workers equal to + 6.5%). There was a negative balance in the number of workers in the sectors “Health and Social Assistance” (-11 workers equal to -4.4%) and “Financial and Insurance Activities” (-6 workers equal to -1%). In the Enlarged Public Sector, workers decreased by 40 units in the last year, settling at 3,707 (-1.1% compared to March 31, 2021). In the last twelve months the number of cross-border commuters has increased by 11.4% (+689 units), reaching the figure of 6,724 workers, equal to 32.3% of the total number of employees. In the part by qualification, cross-border commuters are mainly “Blue-collar workers” (56.9%) and “White-collar workers” (41.1%), while only 1.7% are managers. As of March 31, 2022 the total unemployed are 795, in the last year they have decreased by 253 units, of which -56 males and -197 females. The unemployed in the strict sense, or those who make themselves immediately available to enter the world of work, are 497, 306 fewer than in 2020, equal to -38%. Among them, the main qualification is the baccalaureate (31.8% of the total) and most are aged between 25 and 29 (15.9% of the total). Compared to March 2020, the unemployed in the strict sense under the age of 30 decreased by 105 units, equal to -41%, while those over 50 years old decreased by 100 units equal to -45%.
• CIG:
The redundancy fund paid in 2021 amounts to € 4,092,573, with a total of 819 companies that have made use of it. In the same period of 2020, the layoffs amounted to € 13,175,586 and the companies involved were 2,152. With regard to the lawsuits, it is noted that the amount paid for “Reduction of activity for Covid-19” amounts to € 2,701,193. The Special Economic Indemnity paid in the first quarter of 2022 is equal to € 485,516, in the same period of 2021 it amounted to € 941,082.
