Russian oil depot in Bryansk on fire – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country
Several videos on social media from last night, which will be from Bryansk, show explosions and violent flames. Bryansk is located about 150 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
Russian authorities confirm that an oil depot in the city is on fire, but say no one was injured in the incident.
A fire has been reported in the Transneft Bryansk-Druzhba oil depot in Bryansk. According to preliminary information, there are no injuries, the Russian Ministry of Emergencies reports according to AFP.
It is not known what caused the fires and explosions.
Fire in military facility
It’s not just an oil depot that is on fire. Videos from Bryansk refer to thick clouds of smoke rising towards the sky.
The other cloud of smoke is to come from a military facility which is, among other things, a base for Russian artillery.
According to Russian authorities, there is a fuel depot at the base burning.
Oil pipeline to Europe
The oil depot in Bryansk is connected to the oil pipeline “Druzhba”, one of the longest in the world of its kind.
Druzhba means friendship in Russian.
This is the main pipeline for Russian oil to Europe. It passes through Belarus and Poland and ends up in Germany. A branch (Druzhba II) runs through Ukraine to Hungary.
It is unclear whether the fires in Bryansk will affect the flow of Russian oil to Europe.
