Cologne (dpa / lnw) – After a fatal knife attack on a 25-year-old in front of a club on Halloween night 2021, a trial against a 17-year-old has begun. The public prosecutor accuses him of manslaughter. The trial at the Cologne district court began on Monday, but due to the youthful age of the accused, it is completely closed to the public.
Even before the fatal stabbing, there were arguments between the two young men in the club, according to a court spokesman. The dispute is said to have escalated in front of the club between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. The 17-year-old is said to have pulled out a one-handed knife and stabbed the 25-year-old in the chest. The stab is said to have hit the heart of the victim.
At the beginning of April, a 17-year-old was sentenced to six years and three months in prison for manslaughter in Cologne. The man fatally injured an 18-year-old with a knife during a dispute in the summer. Partly as a reaction to this incident, two no-gun zones in Cologne were set up last December.
A further nine days of negotiations have been scheduled for the process that has now begun. A verdict is expected at the end of June.
