Portugal receives flight with more than 150 Ukrainian refugees and 150 animals
More than 150 Ukrainian refugees arrived this Monday at Figo Maduro airport in Lisbon on a humanitarian flight. There were also 14 animals on board.
The flight came from Warsaw, capital of Poland, on a Ukrainian airline, SkyUp Airlines. It was chartered by the LAPS Foundation, founded by Lapo Elkann and chaired in Portugal by Joana Lemos.
“The LAPS Foundation wants to help these people rebuild a dignified life, and this was only possible thanks to the dynamism and proactivity of CM Cascais”, says Joana Lemos, president of the LAPS Portugal Foundation.
Lapo Elkann, founder of the LAPS Foundation, highlights, in a statement, that “taking care of the weakest” is a “moral and social duty”.
The Municipality of Cascais offered to receive the families in the municipal centres.
“It is a proclamation of our democratic values, of our identity, of our humanity, which took place today, on the 25th of April, of the new welcome to these citizens fleeing the new iron wave that descends on Europe”, says Carlos Carreiras, president of the Cascais Chamber.
The SkyUp airline published, at the end of March, an airline aimed at all airlines as an air offer of 15 Boeing 737s under “wet lease”, with the exception of flying to Russia and Belarus.
