Convinced since his return from injury (crusaders) on November 20, 2021, Hugo Vandermersch had a great scare during the derby against Le Havre on March 19. Ten minutes from the end of the match, the side was broke at the entrance to the penalty area by the young Sael Kumbedi Nseke. More fear than harm, Hugo Vandermersch only suffered this time from a simple hematoma on the level of the tibia. But on the return from the international truce, again: injury to the adductors. After a month without fouling the lawns of Ligue 2, the native of Blendecques was lined up against AJA on Saturday April 23, 2022.
“Excellent feelings”
“Today was impeccable, I don’t feel anything anymore! We had taken the time to take care of that. I feel good physically but with very few sessions in the legs, that’s why I only played 85 minutes” explained the Northerner after the match. “I had taken a little morale hit when I learned that I was going to be away from the field for a while. After the crusaders, I wanted to chain all the matches until the end of the season. Now, the most important thing is to have treated this injury well and to be back on the pitch. »
A strong comeback
Very present during this meeting ended in a draw (1-1), the Caennais delivered no less than ten crosses and nine deep passes. “After the red card (for Mathias Autret at the start of the second half, editor’s note), we wanted to equalize quickly to eventually win this match. We had to put a lot of rhythm and make many crosses to try to find the fault. Too bad it didn’t smile on us sooner. On one all the same the merit of having returned to the score and it is merit. The team would have preferred a victory, especially for the 15,000 supporters present this afternoon. »
Towards a contract extension?
When Hugo Vandermersch is asked what he is doing at the end of the season, the full-back replies with amusement: “I’m going on vacation, why? “At the end of the contract with Stade Malherbe Caen, the Northerner is happy in Normandy: “We are in discussions with the club, you are almost more aware of what is going on than me (laughs). More precisely, we will see what it is at the end of the season. I’m happy here and the important thing is to evolve in a club where you feel good. »
