Benfica Canoeing Portuguese Cup
The High Performance Center of Montemor-o-Velho received the 2022 edition of the Portugal Cup of Online Regattas on the weekend of 23 and 24 April, organized by the Portuguese Federation of Canoeing. Fernando Pimenta, João Ribeiro, Teresa Portela, Messias Baptista, Pedro Casinha and João Duarte won a total of 15 medals – seven gold, five silver and three bronze!
In a competition that involves close to a thousand athletes and fifty clubs from all over the country, obvious and natural for the performances and consequent highlights of the athletes of Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
Fernando Pimenta to the highest place on the podium in K1 100 they went up and got bronze in K1 00 m, proves my colleague João Ribeiro was the big winner, having been runner-up in K1 1000 m.
Baptist Messiah won gold at K1 200 m and silver at K1 500 m. In the U-23 classification, the canoeist added two more medals to the Club’s total, with gold in K1 200 m and silver in K1 500 m. Already Pedro Casa he was bronze in K1 200 m (absolute), and in the U-23 category he was classified in 2nd place in K1 500 m and also in K1 200 m. João Duartein turn, he won a bronze medal in K1 1000 m, the distance in which he snatched gold in the Under-23 category.
In the women’s sector, Teresa Portela didn’t give a chance in K1 500 m, winning the gold, and was 2nd classified in K1 200 m.
Accounts made, another great weekend for canoeing and the Sport Lisboa e Benfica Olympic project, with the conquest of 15 medals in the prestigious competition.
