In an interview with ARL, former Bordeaux player Julien Faubert lamented the loss of identity at Girondins de Bordeaux.
“When I say ‘our’ club, I grew up there. When I came back, I found the same people who saw me improved, this family atmosphere that you no longer find because of these petrodollars, or these investors who think that… Yes, the football club itself- even remains a company, but there are people who have been there for years, there are volunteers who have become employees, who live around the club. When you arrive and you think you can revolutionize everything by bringing in everything that is technological or otherwise, by obscuring this human side… This is why today there is really a break that is made between the supporters and the club. For me, this is what distorts what I loved in Bordeaux. For having discussed with former colleagues of mine and people who are within the club, there is no longer this family, scapular, and Bordeaux identity, which was also the strength of the club. Do elders have a role to play? There is already work at the training level (to be done) where many clubs are calling back the old ones, to try to restore this club identity. Afterwards, there are already plenty of things that should be done, because of the anniversary that there was for example (the 140 years, editor’s note). I was not invited for example…”, he named.
