Johann Zarco on pole. Miguel Oliveira starts from 11th
Miguel Oliveira (KTM) will start this Sunday from 11th position for the Portuguese Grand Prix, held at the Algarve International Circuit. The Portuguese driver, after four training sessions, was the 1min 1min. th best time in qualifying. from pole position in Portimão.
The rain gave a truce in the Algarve soil and the pilots were created, lap after lap, time. Zarco took pole position with a lap of 42.003sec, thus leading Joan Mir (Suki) and Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia).
The grid line will consist of second Miller (Ducati), for the second title in title Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) and Marco Bezzecchi (46 Racing Team), while the third will have Alex Márquez (LCR Honda), Luca Marini (VR46 Racing Team) and Marc Marquez (Honda). Miguel Oliveira will then start from the fourth row of the grid, behind Pol Espargaró (Honda) and ahead of teammate Brad Binder.
Dry floor harmful to KTM
As expected, qualifying 1 and 2 will not go through with rain in Portimão. As the equipment had to adapt without heavy rains, since the data trained two few with the very wet floor.
Miguel Oliveira was comfortable in these more adverse conditions, as in the third and fourth training sessions. Admittedly, the sun came out and how fast conditions are for all other riders to adapt, but what is faster for others to adapt.
This Sunday, the warm-up will be important to assess the true race pace that the drivers will have in the race, which will start at 13:00. That the unfar in the Algarve, already with few doubts, will only be necessary for KTM to get the recipe (and tuning) right for the RC could be tri what is scheduled for tomorrow.
