Coins marking Lisbon’s diversity and praising Muslim community
“THEthank you for everything you do for Lisbon, thank you for being Lisboners”, said Carlos Moedas, at the Lisbon Central Mosque, where he was with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to share the ‘iftar’, the breaking of the daily fast in the month of Ramadan, after sunset.
Many prayers, Carlos Moedas also thanked the chief “for his vision, for his openness, for what he represented in religious freedom in Portugal” and an honor on the occasion at the Central Mosque of Lisbon, where he said he had already been “many times”.
The social democrat introduced himself as “president of all Lisboners, believers, non-believers, the left, the rights of the most believers and the elderly, exactly as the Koran says: to believers and non-young people, the blessings of God will not be denied to anyone.”
“It is exactly the union of differences that makes us go further”, he maintained, declaring that for him “diversity is everything”.
About coming from Mozambique, Carlos Moedas in Portugal, Carlos Moedas, considers that he has such an extraordinary community and “essential for such an extraordinary culture” and “essentially for such an extraordinary culture in Lisbon”, emphasizing that he was Muslim, but so many people as extraordinary as Lisbon”.
“Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Guinea-Bissau, today closer to Lisbon, closer than ever. with the blood of the Asian continent, with the new Guineans graduating from the universities of Lisbon”, he defended.
“It is for this community that I work, for all of you, for what you mean in Lisbon, because Lisbon is also your future, it is our future”, he added.
Before taking his place, Carlos Moedas heard from the chairman of the Comunidadeslâmica de Lisboa, about the possibility of identifying land for “the construction of social housing, talking to the associates and others in need in this area”.
“And then the Chamber’s will certainly help us a little bit”, observed Maohomed Iqbal.
The mayor did not address this issue in his speech, in which he took the opportunity to signal the approval by the Lisbon City Council of free public transport for people over 65 years old, from June or July, and for September until the age of 23, in September .
“I thought of all of you when he took advantage of public transport in Lisbon for the youngest and the oldest”, he said.
