Cologne: the fair must first close
Too many visitors and fisticuffs at a Cologne fair have forced the operator to close the site early. But then there were arguments.
Because of overcrowding and several fights, a fair in the Deutz district of Cologne ended half an hour earlier on Wednesday evening. A police spokesman said on Thursday that there would have been several thousand people on the fairgrounds on the alleged family day. Again and again there were physical arguments among selected young and partly drunk guests.
After the fair closed, some of the problems were published on the Rheinboulevard. Police officers had discovered a very aggressive mood there. After several place references had been issued, two 23 and 28-year-old men attacked police officers. Around 200 bystanders had shown solidarity with them against the police. The police then asked for help. A police officer was slightly injured. The “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” had reported.
As a consequence of the events, the organizer announced on Thursday that the second planned family day next Wednesday had to be canceled “due to the expected high number of visitors”. There are discounts on family days, the rides are only half price.
