Aldi invests 60 million euros in its largest distribution center in Portugal – Comércio
Aldi officially opened, this one of the biggest doors in Portugal and its fourth distribution of the Aldi Nord group. Located in Moita, the new logistics warehouse for the German supermarket chain is the result of an investment of 60 million euros.
In a statement sent to the newsrooms, the food retailer indicates that the center, with an area of 57,000 square meters, “will allow for faster and more efficient supply with more than 100 stores” spread across the country.
“The new expansion structure was established to supply a more national store, and the plan to expand the natural need in stores in the territory, and which foresees the need for 200 national stores in Portugal, which foresees 200 in 2025”, define the company, an orientation that allows, at the same time, “centralization of the entire logistics operation”, previously divided into two platforms (Montijo and Quinta do Anj) in one place. The distribution center has 89 loading and unloading docks, 60 parking spaces for trucks and a storage capacity of 14,000 square meters of refrigerators. In addition to the investment applied in the physical structure, Aldi is also a “strong” bet on technology, as an example is the fact that a new logistics operation is supported by the latest WMS (Warehouse Management System), used throughout the Aldi Nord group. .

This distribution center symbolizes our growth and that we intend to achieve in Portugal in the coming years”, said the CEO of Aldi Al. Portugal, Wolfgang Graff, quoted in the same press release.
From the point of view of sustainability, the distribution center contains in particular “with photovoltaic movement capable of producing up to 1M of energy, protected by energy sensors, while several cold chambers have refrigeration systems, which minimize the harmful effects to an ozone layer”, for Aldi.
