Danh Vo on display at the Querini Stampalia in Venice, in dialogue with Park Seo-Bo and Noguchi
The Querini Stampalia Foundation in Venice hosts, from April 20 to November 27, an exhibition in which one of the most famous contemporary artists on the world scene, Danh Vo, puts himself in dialogue with two other Asian artists: Park Seo-Bo and Isamu Noguchi .
From 20 April to 27 November 2022, on the occasion of the 59th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, the Querini Stampalia Foundationin collaboration with White Cube presents an exhibition curated by the artist Danh Vo (Ba Ria, 1975) together with Chiara Bertola, in charge of the institution’s contemporary art program. The review, entitled Danh Vo, Isamu Noguchi, Park Seo-Boputs Danh Vo’s artistic practice in dialogue with the work of Seo-Bo Park (Yecheon, 1931), widely recognized as the initiator of the Korean art movement Dansaekwa (monochrome painting), and by Isamu Noguchi (Los Angeles, 1904 – New York, 1988), an important American sculptor, architect, designer and set designer of Japanese origins.
The exhibition project embraces all the spaces of the historic building once the private home of the noble Venetian family of the Querini who over the years have accumulated a vast set of works of art, books, precious objects, forming an important collection, made available to the community with the foundation of the Foundation in 1869. Known for his sensitivity towards space and time, the concept of personal and collective history, Danh Vo was invited to pervade with his vision the labyrinthine architecture of the Foundation that combines elements ancient, modern and contemporary, in a continuous journey through the centuries.
Describing it as a “large sculpture” that can from time to time make new encounters and take on new scenographies, only to be revealed and seen by the visitor, the artist will punctuate the spaces of Querini with “light” staging interventions that include the Akari lamp , signed by Noguchi, together with a body of his works, many of which were made in the studio and farm of Güldenhof, north of Berlin. Park Seo-Bo’s work is instead exhibited in a dedicated room and is represented by a set of paintings from the series Écriturathat are deeply linked to the notions of time, space and matter.
The exhibition is part of the multi-year program Keep the futureconceived and curator by Chiara Bertola for the Querini Stampalia Foundation, in which contemporary artists are called to confront and dialogue with the spaces of the Foundation, drawing inspiration for new expressions, in the sign of vital experimentation.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am – 6 pm, the ticket office closes at 5.30 pm, closed on Mondays. For all information visit the Querini Stampalia Foundation website.
