The A7 motorway cut off at Avignon-Morières after a heavy truck accident in the south-north direction
Around 1:30 p.m. this Saturday, the A7 motorway was cut off at Morières-lès-Avignon in the Vaucluse, in the south-north direction, following a truck accident. On this Saturday of the extended Easter weekend and very busy with traffic, this cut in the motorway resulted in the formation of a traffic jam reaching up to 7 km before a diversion was put in place. Coming from the south, the Cavaillon exit is recommended rather than Avignon sud where the dense traffic causes significant slowdowns.
The truck catches fire
The truck involved in the accident, a thirty-eight ton, even caught fire after overturning; a fire quickly circumscribed by the firefighters as well as the conflagration of the vegetation bordering the highway. The driver escaped unscathed at the time of the accident, but when the truck fell, shrapnel hit a car traveling on the opposite lanes. The driver was slightly injured and treated by firefighters. This also caused, at this height, a strong slowdown in the north-south direction this time. There were delays and even traffic jams towards Marseille until after 6 p.m. between Vedène and Morières-lès-Avignon, as vehicles slowed down to watch the scene of the accident.
Return to normal traffic on the A7 only after 10 p.m.
The clearing then the towing of the charred carcass of the heavy goods vehicle carried out, the return to normal traffic on this section of motorway only intervened after 10 p.m.
