The Rialto market reduces the counters from 40 to 28: new provisions for fruit and vegetables
VENICE – The fruit and vegetable market of Rialto di Rialto of which the stalls for lack of purchases: a decision that was in fact, given that for some time they have become the rule and no longer the exception. And so the Municipality had to give a new face to the beating heart of the ancient city, as required by the resolution approved yesterday in the City Council, with 26 votes in favor, 2 against (Gianfranco Bettin of Verde Progressista and Giovanni Andrea Martini of “All the City together “) and 6 abstentions (the Pd group).
“The last restyling in 2009,” said the councilor for Commerce, Sebastiano Costalonga, entering into the details of the news. Forty total current stalls – that is, those present both in the Casaria area, adjacent to Campo Bella Vienna, and in Campo de la Pescaria, overlooking the Grand Canal – which will be reduced to 28 total, due to the non-use of some registered in the years. «The 500 thousand euros allocated by the administration with the latest approval of the budget – continued the commissioner – will also be used to put back the existing curtains and structures. The possibility of starting a new planning will also lead to becoming a more lively and visibly more compact market ». Nothing will change for the 24 stations now present in Campo de la Pescaria (of which they are not occupied), in the sense that the numbers will remain unchanged. The real change will in fact involve the four peninsulas, each made up of as many banks, located in the Casaria area: 16 are the activities present today, of which only 3-4 are in use, so much so that we have decided to opt – in the new reorganization – for two peninsulas by two operators each to be placed longitudinally. The target? Eliminate those activities that have long since been emptied of theirs, also a source of essence, and make the passage of patrons and passers-by easier. «The last call, dating back to 2009-2010, allowed 48 banks to be daring at the disposal of operators. But immediately afterwards it was understood that those facing the Grand Canal were not of interest, with the consequent elimination of 8 stalls from the old planning. The Bolkestein ban was followed by 26 requests, but at the moment only 18 of these stalls are used between the two areas mentioned ».
Among the essential points of the reorganization, preventing the market from transforming into what it is not. Which means “not to allow the administration of food by the employees”, perfectly in line with the proposal for an anti-junk resolution presented by the councilor a few days ago. “Among other things, I underline the importance of pursuing a path linked to the brand for Venice, to enhance the activities that make use of local products and improve the quality of our restaurants”. The councilor Cecilia Tonon (Venice is yours) shifted attention to the theme of residential accommodation, with a view to revitalizing the reality area, made up above all of Venetian residents, to be recalled or kept in the historic center. Supported in the reasoning by Marco Gasparinetti (Earth and Water), both in favor of the resolution.
«The relaunch of the market passes from residentiality. And it measures in its favor I don’t see any. I would like some concrete action to be thought of to guarantee operators and customers moorings in the area, so that the market can also be reached by boat ». «Eliminate banks without proposing solutions? I read it as the acceptance of a failure ”, said Martini, asking that in the Pescheria area – when not in use -“ dynamics of cultural, musical and theatrical entertainment ”be activated. «Talking about a new spring when you go to remove the benches – the words of Monica Sambo (Pd) – I find it a paradox. For a revitalization of the area, aggregative activities linked to local associations could be carried out ». If for Silvia Peruzzo Meggetto (Mayor Brugnaro) the approved intervention will lead to a more attractive area, now suffering, Giovanni Giusto, delegate for the protection of traditions, has instead stressed the need for berths in Rialto. «The resolution – highlighted Emanuele Rosteghin (Pd) – must be accompanied by a relaunch project. The commissioner has accepted my amendment. Can we try to reason together to reverse the course? ».
