Suspension of new local accommodation registrations in Lisbon came into force

In the municipal assembly, the proposal was postponed three times, ending up advancing by March, on 22 of three months after the city council approval, having been made possible with the votes against of PSD, CDS-PP, PAN, IL, MPT, PPM, Aliança and Chega, the abstention of BE and the votes in favor of PS, PCP, PEV, Livre and two deputies from Cidadãos for Lisbon (elected by the PS/Livre coalition).

For the president of the Local Accommodation Association in Portugal (ALEP), Eduardo Miranda, the suspension of new registrations “does not make sense, it is not based on facts”.

The sector representative defended that the implementation actions must be supported by studies, considering that the proposal under discussion results from “political games or internal wars between parties”.
Eduardo Miranda also said that he considers the suspension of new local accommodation registrations as one of the most important policies to combat the lack of housing.
Data from the National Register of Local Accommodation Establishments (RNAL), up to 20th of this year, indicate that the municipality of Lisbon has 19,983 records in March, out of the 100,513 that exist nationwide.
Regarding new records in recent months in Lisbon, the latest RNAL November points to an upward dynamics of data since 2021, with 43 new establishments, rising to 125 in December, 141 in December, 232 in February and 152 until the 20th of December. March .
