Krakow, Warsaw. Clean transport zone. Old cars won’t go downtown
Enough of poisonous exhaust fumes – Warsaw and Krakow, no entry for old cars. They have no entry now, because it will be a clean transport zone. Since when and who will it concern? “Polska i Świat” magazine material
Warsaw is preparing a road revolution. Before entering the city center, signs indicating a clean transport zone. The city, through them, the most poisonous cars from the assembly sites entered it. – We certainly say that this type of restriction should apply to all those manufactured before 2005 – says Michał Olszewski, vice-president of Warsaw.
The zone is already in two years
So it is about diesel passenger cars, more than 17 years old today. This one was first ordered from the center. Where’s the tennis from? – The Śródmieście district for sure. The question is whether it is in full squad or even further. We are awarded the works of experts from international organizations – admits Olszewski.
– If the zone where there will be going, where will keep low-level vehicles to be met. The proposal should be constantly expanded to cover not only another emission standard, but also other areas. In the team that developed a comprehensive vehicle emission auction index in Warsaw.
Drivers who will be able to enter the zone will receive window stickers with information about the year of production and fuel quality. Perhaps such cars, also owners of older living who have their own. There are already the first declarations as to the dates of the changes. – We are starting consultations. Adoption of the year will already be a preparation for the implementation of this pilot zone, when it will be in line with the rhythm of the year 2024 until the period when the zone will already be implemented – announces Michał Olszewski.

Clean transport zone in Krakow
It is to start in Krakow at the beginning of the proposed year. There are several districts where the streets are closed to the oldest cars. – Will not be audited in environments manufactured between 1993 and 2000 and earlier. This is the first stage – says Dariusz Nowak from the Krakow city of the city. In an additional year, the list of cars that will not enter the zone is extended. In year 20, with 24 than 18 years, they will be more than 18 years old and will be produced before 2002.
The last consultations with the residents are already underway. – Some may already be better solutions, such as the fact that they could enjoy free public transport, that former bicycle manufacturers already had – enumerated Dariusz Nowak.
The idea electrified many local government officials. A coalition of cities has already formed that now want to introduce clean zones. Łódź, among others, on the list. Officials are also going abroad to see how the zone is there. Then they want to see where the cars poison the most. – Sometimes it is not a busy road, it is the one in gewa that has conductivity – says Adam Wieczorek, vice-president of Łódź.
How will it affect air quality?
Warsaw hopes that the older cars thrown out of the city center will be visible after a few months. – Cars that meet the Euro 4 standard, that is a few percent of vehicles. But these few percent are responsible for 40 percent of dust emissions. This is the disproportion. Theoretically, the only thing that is collected is that you get interest on the percentage of vehicles, we have an effect – says Olszewski.
How will it affect the air that Varsovians breathe? – will we have a 20 percent reduction in emissions already in the former? I think that we can confidently talk about a permanent drop of these concentrations in Warsaw below the threshold – says Bartosz Piłat from the Polish Smog Alert.
Warsaw and Krakow are to be the first zones. In other cities, even better roads for future ones are a long way.
