“Application sharp” in Easter travel – salzburg.ORF.at
timeline
On Friday, the police started another “action sharp” in Easter travel. Therefore, a large number of officials will be deployed on the streets of Salzburg over the next few days.
It’s about speeders, pushers, people who don’t keep their distance, alcohol and drug drivers, people who don’t wear seatbelts, cell phone users, notorious left-hand drivers – who are driving on motorways, federal roads or even in urban areas. 2,500 radio patrols and civilian vehicles, 350 motorcycles, 1,600 radar and laser measuring devices and 2,800 alcohol testing devices are in use throughout Austria.
A police helicopter will also be used in Salzburg, explained Werner Baier from the Anif (Flachgau) motorway police. Because the statistics have been very bad for such appointments in the accident area in recent years. “Last year on the Easter weekend in Austria we had over 200 accidents involving personal injury, four people were killed. It’s all about road safety there.”
Bad weather better for safety
The police want to be present on the Easter weekend – they have the experience, so it matters, says Baier. He also hopes for low temperatures, because the weather plays a big role. “Of course it would be better for traffic safety if it were worse, because then the number of motorcyclists would be limited.”
The first wave of travel is over on the Tuesday after Easter. However, next weekend will be busy again because the holidays are ending for several German federal states.
