Ranking: Portugal dates best participation in the last decade to lose ground
It was already known that it was the best campaign of the last decade, not as far as the UEFA ranking is concerned, but the truth is that Portugal ended the 2021/22 campaign losing ground to the Netherlands.
As the accounts were closed, this week, with the point guaranteed by Benfica, taking into account the draw at Anfield, which did not prevent the distribution of Nélson Veríssimo’s team.
The Sp. Braga, defeated by Rangers in Glasgow, failed to score in the farewell to the competition.
Portugal thus loses ground to the Netherlands, who added three points: two for the victory of Feyenoord over Slavia, and another bonus for the qualification of the Rotterdam team to the semi-finals of the Conference League.
At the moment Portugal occupies the sixth position in the ranking, with 53,382 points, while the Netherlands add up to 48,500, but I already knew that the order will reverse itself in the next season’s operation.
This is because the accounting is based on the last five years, so the 2017/18 season will not be counted, in which the Portuguese representation was higher.
Thus, Portugal will start the next season in seventh position in the ranking, with 43,716 points, and the Netherlands in sixth position, with 45,600 for now. A difference that can still increase, therefore, considering that Feyenoord is still in the Conference League.
