New train offers are well received
Traffic
Since last December, Verkehrsverbund Tirol and ÖBB have been offering 780,000 more train kilometers per year in local transport. An initial assessment after four months shows that the offers are very well received by the population.
In particular, the new Cityjet Xpress trains, which run 13 times a day from Innsbruck to Kufstein, were very busy right from the start, they emphasized. When counted in January, ÖBB recorded around 2,250 passengers boarding and alighting daily. Those responsible see the main reason for this in the shorter travel times – the Cityjet Xpress travels as fast as a long-distance train.
The new trade fair stop is also well frequented
If the public transport offer fits, then it will also be accepted, ÖBB regional manager Rene Zumtobel and the responsible transport state minister Ingrid Felipe (Greens) agree: “We notice the unique historical expansion of the rail offer not only in the daily commuter traffic at peak times, but Also in terms of the frequencies at the new, state-of-the-art Messe station, which has become the new “main station” for many people after just four months,” says Felipe.
At the newly opened Innsbruck Messe stop, local trains make more than 150 stops every day. In the first four months, 1,000 people got on and off the bus every day at the new stop.
Night trains are used a lot
The night S-Bahn trains have only been in operation again since July 2021: Zen trains bring those who like to go out and shift workers home safely. According to ÖBB counts, almost 1,900 people were on the Tiroler Nacht S-Bahn trains in one night. With an increased offer, that is more passengers than before the pandemic. The leaders among the night S-Bahn trains are the connections from Innsbruck to Kufstein at 3:05 a.m. and 4:05 a.m., which were recently fully utilized with over 200 guests.
