Mild weather increases the risk of landslides throughout Norway
– Increasing danger in southern Norway now and northern Norway from Saturday. It is very difficult to say exactly when it is snow-covered enough that it will be very easy to trigger avalanches or that it will resolve itself, says duty officer in the avalanche warning, Emma Barfod to Fri Flyt on Thursday.
– But what we do know is that we have an unstable snow cover from before that can cause large landslides and can reach beyond flat terrain.
Persistently weak layers have caused scary landslide conditions in large parts of the country this Easter. Now the temperatures are higher, and the conditions even scarier this weekend.
– Western Norway has had a sharp rise in temperature today which has resulted in several large naturally triggered landslides. The heat will continue for the next few days as well, so the danger is by no means over.
This case is also part of a daily landslide warning from Varsom that will run throughout Easter on friflyt.no.

On Wednesday, it became clear that the risk of landslides in northwestern Norway increased due to the mild weather. Now the danger warning applies to the whole of Norway.
– Northern Norway does not get proper mild weather until Saturday. Then the unstable snow cover will be weakened and it can both be very easy to trigger landslides and there can also be large naturally triggered landslides.
The Council is, not surprisingly, the following:
Avoiding avalanche terrain when the temperature rises is our clear advice. The landslides can go far out on flat areas.
