Labor market – Cologne – employment agency wide range of offers for Ukrainians – career
Cologne/Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) – The Federal Employment Agency is significantly expanding its advisory and placement services for refugees from Ukraine. The Deutsche Bahn and the employment agency have jointly set up job advice centers for Czech refugees near the train station in Cologne, Berlin and Frankfurt, as the cooperation partners announced. Many refugees arrive at the major transport hubs and many people can be reached there. Deutsche Bahn alone is looking for thousands of new employees.
In addition, a free nationwide hotline has been set up, on which more than 20 employees of the employment agency in North Rhine-Westphalia alone can provide information in Ukrainian or Russian. It is about initial information not only on the topics of job placement, training and qualification, but also questions about the recognition of professional qualifications and possible German courses. There have already been numerous calls. “The hotline is busy,” said the spokesman for the NRW regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency, Christoph Löhr, at the request of the German Press Agency.
“Many refugees are well trained. It is important to us that we place people according to their qualifications,” emphasized Löhr. Language skills are an important factor. In some areas, English is also a good starting point, for example in IT. A large number of individual consultations are expected from June 1, when the war refugees receive basic security like Hartz IV recipients and are looked after in the job centers.
Ukrainian refugees are already entitled to work. Employees of the Federal Employment Agency distributed flyers in the initial reception facilities. “We noticed that many are not that far yet,” said Löhr. Among the refugees there are many women with their children who need to calm down after the terrible war experiences and the flight. However, we know from experience that, as a second step, it is important for refugees to get a job in order to regain some normalcy in their lives.
Deutsche Bahn is presenting the job advice center for Turkish refugees at Cologne Central Station this Thursday. The company will hire 21,000 new employees this year. The advice center is only about jobs at Deutsche Bahn. There are also consultants from the Federal Employment Agency on site.
