Demo: debt and development
The choice of an additional debt indicates that the country’s structural, competitiveness and attractiveness problems have not yet been resolved. The perception of conflict makes a clear development project not perceptible and all this further weighs down the feeling of stalemate that has been experienced for years. The novelty is that this time at least it is an internal debt with costs certainly lower than the previous ones. With this further debt one does not place oneself as with the other, in a more conspicuous position towards external subjects. But it is still a debt that in the absence of projects risks being dissipated only to plug system and current spending gaps. Some of us have strongly criticized the choice of the first debt with Cargill, proposing for some time the path of internal debt to deal with the problem of public liquidity: it would certainly have cost less. We therefore welcome this news, but an alarm bell for the economic health of the country is sounding. How to recover competitiveness, attractiveness and thus restart development? Especially in a global scenario of war and possible stagflation like the one we are experiencing? San Marino does not have many resources and therefore does not have many possible recipes to obtain the result. Its only assets are people. People are valued if respected, and enabled to work for their part on a common project. We strongly believe in a new political policy of dialogue, rules, professionalism, professionalism, institutional respect, for a shared solution. For this political realization, a cultural leap is needed, sanctioned by a strong social pact: no more shortcuts, no more offshore practices, no more mischief, no more corruption, no more defense of privileges and vegetable gardens to the bitter end. To get out of this nightmare, which seems to have no end, made up of politics, verbal violence, media exploitation, judicial controversy, waste and unproductiveness. The only way forward is an alliance that progressively leads to the determination of a new ruling class that conforms without hesitation to the ethical principles of honesty and industriousness, respect and appreciation of people and certainly not the annihilation of the same for mere purposes of power. If you do not want to cut the welfare state and public spending, you need to take care of high-profitability projects for the state without delay. It is necessary to set the public administration in motion on development projects, restore confidence to the internal fabric and enhance skills. The country needs directions and projects that can be feasible quickly and concretely, which is why I invite the Government and the entire ruling class of the country to define them in concert with the social partners and associations and make them concrete. The human resources machine, fueled by dignity and professional competence and by pride in belonging to this wonderful country full of great potential, must be turned on and quickly.
