There is now a battle going on between ordinary people in Norway and the health service
Families are one of the most important communities we have. Therefore, the FRP believes that we must trust the families more and give them more freedom. This involves, among other things, safer and better maternity care.
The regional health authorities will save money and therefore propose to close down food supply throughout the country. It rightly makes people react.
The maternity ward in Kristiansund is an example. Here, the regional health authority has decided to close down the maternity ward, despite strong local opposition.
The Center Party was very opposed to this when they were in opposition, and has also gained support in the Hurdal platform that the maternity ward will be continued at least until 2025.
In practical politics, however, the Labor Party has had an impact: The maternity ward has now been closed for about a year, more in line with what the Labor Party wanted when they were in opposition.
FRP has long believed that we should preserve the maternity ward in Kristiansund, to ensure women giving birth proximity to important health services.
We have also voted in favor of proposals that will guarantee the maternity ward in Kristiansund, but the majority of the other parties have voted this down.
Safe and good maternity care is important for the family’s freedom, especially in an elongated country like Norway.
Next generation
We need enough midwives, safe maternity clinics, but also good follow-up throughout the country. In many places in the country we see a shortage of midwives. FRP is clear that this can only be solved through more educational places and better pay.
When it comes to the shortage of health workers in the coming years, one often forgets those who will literally receive the next generation.
Fighting for the food supply at the ABC clinic: – We are very worried
The FRP has received a majority in favor of presenting an escalation plan from the government to ensure more health workers, including midwives.
FRP will keep the current maternity ward with small maternity wards, medium-sized maternity wards and large women’s clinics, and is opposed to a centralization of the maternity ward.
Smaller maternity wards must be distributed so that there is proximity to the offers. We believe that there is a need for more midwives in the municipalities, and that is why the legal requirement for midwifery competence in the municipalities was reintroduced while we were in the government.
When the municipalities have been given increased responsibility for the follow-up of those who have given birth, the most important measure is to ensure that there is enough midwifery education to fill the positions in both the specialist service and the municipalities.
It is women who give birth, not the state.
Therefore, the FRP will continue to fight to release the families.
Already this spring, it will be voted on one suggestion from Frp where the family can choose who will be at home with the children.
It is a step in the right direction.
