SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: South Ripley wins pitcher duel with Switzerland, 4-1 | Sports
South Ripley capitalized on his few chances to record a 4-1 win over Switzerland County in softball on Monday in Vevay.
The Raiders racked up five hits against Swiss ace Lily Sparks and converted them into four runs, while the Pacers racked up four hits against Ripley ace Mady Tompkins but only managed one run in the loss.
Sparks (1-2) hit eight and walked one of seven innings of work, while Tompkins had 13 strikeouts and two walks. Sparks also had two of the Pacers’ hits in play, while Maddie Duvall had a hit and made a run, and Jessie Duvall had a hit. Hailey Sainz collected an RBI.
Switzerland, now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Ohio River Valley Conference, traveled to Milan on Wednesday and travels to Jac-Cen-Del on Friday. The Pacers travel to Providence next Tuesday.
Trimble rolls over Carroll
Trimble County pitcher McKenna Ritchie allowed just one hit to score in a 17-1 win over Carroll County in the opening round of the All “A” Classic Eighth Region Tournament in Carroll County on Tuesday.
The Raiders scored seven runs top of the first inning to take early control of the game and added runs in each subsequent inning. Emma Ginn led the Trimble attack by hitting her fourth home run of the season and going 3-on-3 with a double, four RBIs and four runs scored.
Ritchie hit her first home run of the season and went 2-on-3 with three RBIs while Maddie Nixon hit two doubles, an RBI and a run. Kaylee Payton added two hits and two runs, Lauren Haney had a double and an RBI, and Alana Washington had a hit and an RBI.
Ritchie (4-5) batted four and walked five in four innings to take the win.
Layne Huesman had a double and hit a run and Bailey Stewart had a hit for Carroll. Madi Groves (1-4) gave up 15 earned runs in four innings and walked eight to pocket the loss.
Trimble, now 5-5 on the season, will face Walton-Verona in the All-A semifinals at home today, with the championship scheduled for Friday. The Raiders will head to Southwestern on Saturday for a round robin with the Rebels and South Central.
Carroll, now 1-4, traveled to Villa Madonna on Wednesday and is heading to Boone County on Friday. The Panthers host Gallatin on Monday.
Hanover separates from Franklin
Hannover clinched a doubleheader split at Franklin on Tuesday, losing 3-0 in the first set but winning 3-2 in the second game.
Katherine Dickinson had two hits to lead the Panthers in the first game while Kendra Hutchison, Dani Steward, Alex Miller and Mallorie Fultz had one each. Lauren Beaman (2-4) accepted the loss after allowing three runs with seven hits in six innings.
Miller bombed a triple home run in the sixth inning to lead Hanover to victory in the second game.
Lexi Garloch had three hits for the Panthers, Fultz was 2-for-3 with a double, and Dickinson and Kensie Bradley had one each.
Courtney Chookie (1-0) clinched the win after allowing two earned runs with six hits in five innings.
Lily Beurman threw a scoreless inning and a third for defense.
Hanover, now 9-13 overall and 4-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, hosts Transylvania for two games today and hosts Anderson for two on Saturday.
