After the examination of the relevant criteria had occurred in recent years due to the pandemic or took place in a weaker form, the licensing and approval process of Senate 5 of the Austrian Bundesliga was held again this year as usual.
In the first instance, the latter denied the license to Austria Vienna (financial and legal), the SKN St. Pölten (financial) and FC Wacker Innsbruck (financial and infrastructural). Austria will also be sanctioned with four deduction points for the coming season and a fine of 20,000 euros.
Austria follows suit
The “Violets” will protest in the next few days. The clubs concerned have eight days to submit new documents and appeal to the protest committee, which will issue a verdict by April 27 at the latest.
“With the investor entry, we have taken the first step towards the economic stabilization of the association, but many measures to reduce costs and increase revenue are still necessary, which we have presented in the licensing process. Due to the complexity and uniqueness of the investor entry, It is understandable that the Bundesliga is asking us further questions,” Gerhard Krisch was quoted as saying in a broadcast by the Viennese.
Wacker not surprised, the SKN is
Wacker Innsbruck is by no means surprised by the decision. Additional documents and a rental agreement with the stadium operator for the next season are still missing. “We remain good things that we can complete all relevant tasks within the late submission period and thus receive the license in the end,” says President Kevin Radi. By late filing, Radi means the second instance.
At the SKN St. Pölten, the new managing director for business, Matthias Gebauer, is “surprised that we did not receive the license in the first instance”. Some sponsorship contracts with the Lower Austrians are about to expire. “The talks with most of the partners are already well advanced (…), so I am very confident that we will receive the license in the second instance.”
Stripping ante portas
In addition to the amateur teams from Rapid Wien and Sturm Graz, SV Stripfing/Weiden and Wien from the Regionalliga Ost and FC Wels from the Regionalliga Mitte have also received approval for the 2nd league.
