Traschio, the picture of Sant’Orsola left for Genoa. It will come back restored
Traschio is a small and ancient village, a few kilometers from Ottone, a Romanesque jewel in beautiful local stone that has come almost intact to us. Off-center from the town, but not too much, is the ancient sixteenth-century church of San Giovanni Battista, built as a monastic cell in the employ of Bobbio; and inside a painting of rare religious and artistic sensitivity, of great value, “Sant’Orsola and her companions in adoration of the Madonna del Rosario”. It is the only painting in the diocese dedicated to Saint Ursula, a British princess consecrated to God. A late 17th century story, it was defined by illustrious scholars such as Bosio and Gonzaga as “A beautiful window wide open to infinity”.
“Unfortunately this work, over the years, has undergone considerable deterioration, and the need for restoration has been a goal for years and a desire of the residents and of those who gravitate to tourism or affection”, he explains Maria Lucia Girometta, who is originally from Traschio. “Finally this strong interest, with the support of the professor Attilio Carboni, a great scholar, pushed me to ask the Banca di Piacenza for help, an institution that is always ready to effectively enhance worthy works ”. The good news: “A few days ago, the painting was taken, with due authorization from the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Parma and Piacenza, and brought to Genoa for restoration to the Oberto studio”.
