Portugal and Bulgaria want to bet together on the energy and digital transition
The presidents of Portugal and Bulgaria defended, this Tuesday, a closer collaboration between the two countries in areas such as transition and energy, which they consider that “the digital war has become more urgent” with Ukraine.
At that time, which is the third official visit of the Bulgarian president to a country “for friendship” but which is at the other end of Europe, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa did not want to talk much “about bilateral problems”, especially because he considers that cooperation “is has been intensifying” at various levels, such as political, economic, cultural and diplomatic.
The head of state therefore preferred to “talk more about the world” with Rumen Radev. On the table was the war in Ukraine. However, for Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the conflict turns out to be a wake-up call for Europe’s energy dependence.
“We both believe that the energy and digital transition have become more urgent”, revealed the President of the Republic, adding the bet on artificial intelligence, at a joint press conference at the Serralves Foundation.

The Bulgarian president also revealed a willingness to intensify sharing in the fields of scientific knowledge and teaching of the Portuguese language.
The third official visit by Rumen Radev, who will be in Lisbon this Wednesday to visit the Instituto Universitário Militar, had more emphasis on Porto by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who considered that it is a city that symbolizes “all ways of living and seeing the world ” common between Portugal and Bulgaria.
“It is a city where our first historical origins are, European Portugal but open to the world, an effort in security but also humanist”, highlighted Marcelo, in a meeting in which hope with Rumen Radev begins, the certainty that, through dialogue, it will end up possible to achieve peace in Europe.
