April 11, “Day of the sea and seafaring culture”
“Established in 2017 through a specific integration of the Code of pleasure boating, today 11 April is the” day of the sea and seafaring culture “, which also sees the Coast Guard committed to the objective of promoting and developing in the schools of all order and cultural degree of the sea, understood as a resource of great cultural, scientific, recreational and economic value. Hence, the promotion of educational and dissemination initiatives to spread knowledge, alongside the school that accompanies young people in their growth, educating them to respect, extended in this case also to that of the sea. It was the celebrations held this morning at the port of Civitavecchia that opened – ideally and symbolically – the broadest program of activities and events promoted, in parallel, throughout the national territory for the “Day of the Sea”, aimed at raising awareness among young people and sea users on the principles of safety at sea and environmental protection. The event was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, Sen. Barbara Floridia and by the Commander General of the Port Authority Corps – Coast Guard, Admiral Chief Inspector Nicola Carlone, with the journalist and television presenter Massimiliano Ossini – recently appointed Prime Ambassador from the National Observatory for the Protection of the Sea – to lead him as an exceptional testimonial. The ceremony involved the winners of the national competition “Citizenship of the sea”, with over 300 students and students of primary and secondary schools in Lazio who participated and were “in attendance” today in Civitavecchia, and it was instead followed in live streaming on the social channels of the Ministry and the Coast Guard by the other Italian institutes winners of the competition, which will then be involved in similar ceremonies organized by the regional commands of the Coast Guard. The competition – now in its edition and aimed at promoting a third citizenship of the sea for female students and guardians of the conservation and enhancement of a vital asset for the planet and promoters of its culture – testifies to the now consolidated collaboration between the Ministry of ” Education and the General Command of the Coast Guard and, symbolically linking nationally to the importance celebrated today, this year dealt with the theme of climate change, and the effects on the coastal environment and on the communities living near the sea”. Even the Port Authority of Rimini, on the occasion of the “Day of the sea and maritime culture”, organized a visit to its offices – in compliance with the provisions on epidemiological prevention – with the pupils of a school of local of childhood. The children, from the military, were “Commanders” for one day of the patrol boat SAR (Search and Rescue) CP 842 and had the opportunity to visit the Operativa del Comando.
