Moderna vaccine batch in Portugal will be destroyed by “presence of a foreign body” – Observer

Health authorities will destroy a batch of Moderna’s vaccine against Covid-19 sent to Portugal where the “presence of a foreign body in the vials” was detected. The information is being advanced by the infarmedauthority that manages the published medicines and health products, in a statement on Sunday.
According to an information note, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Sanitary Products (AEMPS) on Thursday warn Member States that a “quality defect” has been detected in batch 000190A of vaccine, manufactured in Moderna’s laboratory in Spain. Infarmed did not state in the statement that a foreign body was found in the vials.
In addition to Portugal, the lot was also received in Spain, Sweden, Poland and Norway. But, the batch was “quickly” by the Portuguese health authorities and not being distributed to the center none reached agreement in the country. The batch remains in the central warehouse to be destroyed “in articulation and under the responsibility of the manufacturer”.
