LGT World Men’s Final 2022 – Preview of games between Canada and Sweden
Canada won, it was the shortcomings of the United States that pushed Canada into the gold match. Sweden won a gold medal in the Olympics and is looking for another gold to add to their collection.
When asked about his opponents, the Canadian Skip Gushue had nothing but praise,
“They play well. They are made for this event.”
“They get to come here every year and enjoy it and play well. So it will be a struggle …”
“The advantage we have over playing them lately is that we have hammers to start with.”
In the match against the USA, the Canadians went to the final with a score of 6-5. American Skip Korey Dropkins’ draw did not manage to curl enough and left Canada with two shooting stones for an 8-5 victory. Asked about some sloppy play from his team in the early stages, Gushue said,
“The ice seemed okay. We had some bad throws early in the game, but we cleaned it up.”
In their semi-final performance against Italy, Sweden had to keep the lead after being 7-1 up in the fifth end. All their early points were scored by Swedish Ships Niklas Edin. The Italians tried to make a comeback but failed to score after the eighth end when they were down 4-7. Edin scored a single point in the ninth end which led to the Italians admitting defeat.
This win gives Edin a chance at his fourth straight world title and his sixth world crown in total. Asked about the game, Edin said “It was fantastic. We focused really hard before the playoffs here.
We were precise with what we did there. ” And when asked what a sixth medal means to him, Edin said: “A sixth gold medal would mean a lot, especially this season with Olympic gold. I think we are better than ever and if we win this one too, we would be happy with this whole Olympic bike. ”
