Military chief demands full military service – salzburg.ORF.at

More committed national defence, significantly better equipment and, above all, a full eight months of basic military service for young men. The Salzburg military commander demands this – also on the occasion of the war in Ukraine. Anton Waldner also indirectly criticizes politicians of the past decades.
At the major militia exercise in Flachgau, Waldner emphasized that the army had provided too much assistance in the last few centuries, which basically had little to do with the basic tasks of the army: “We have also invested a lot in foreign operations. Successful national defense was absolutely not the focus of politics for more than two decades. As a result, we also lost a lot of time in terms of training.”
“No longer take on the tasks of the police”
If a conscript is trained for three months and then spends three months in Burgenland migrating, then he cannot be assigned to the militia: “He has not finished his training. We have to win back time, reduce the assistance. The police must be structured in such a way that they can actually guard borders and embassies themselves. We in the army should be able to restore our core competence.”
Major militia exercise of the army
The Flachgau has been a large training area for the army militia since Tuesday. In a total of eight communities, soldiers practice, among other things, property protection and defense against drones. Flying Bulls aircraft are also used – more on this in salzburg.ORF.at (April 5, 2022)
