Who are Costanza Bottino and Elisa Occella? What are your origins and what was your training path?
CB: We have a different background; I come from the legal world, I have a degree in Law, but I abandoned the legal practice to pursue my passion for fashion and, after having followed a specific course in design and production of accessories, together with Elisa, I founded Connibì.
EO: I am an art historian instead. To this day you continue to collaborate with a museum in Genoa. Always in search of beauty, I am particularly passionate about ancient art. The love for the world of accessories united me with Costanza and brought us, in a completely natural way, to this new project together.
When and how was the Connibì brand born? Why did you choose this name?
CB: Our startup was born in 2019, in a small laboratory in Genoa, located in the Boccadasse district. We ourselves got involved by making the first models by hand and experimenting firsthand the artisan techniques necessary for leather processing, just like in the ancient Genoese and, more generally, Italian workshops. Connibì owes its name to my diminutive, Conni, precisely, and to the fact that from the beginning we have proposed to work with bi-materials: leather and suede, fabric and leather and so on …
Why the bags and, in particular, the bucket? What does this accessory represent for you?
EO: We are big fans of accessories, especially bags. The bucket is a timeless and transversal model, today also in perfect trend, a real passe-partout which, due to its depth, allows you to “fit everything”. What is more, for us it also represents a model of free and carefree beauty. We also thought of playing with sizes (maxi, medium and min) and with materials to become suitable for every occasion of use, a sort of 24 hours bag, for the day (even for the beach) and, in the mini version. , for the evening or special occasion.
What are the distinctive stylistic features of your creations?
CB: From a stylistic point of view, as mentioned above, we stand out for the use of bi-materials. Each model is created by combining different fabric, leather and textures, always playing with double materials, embellished with exclusive finishes. For example, for SS 22 we combined suede with raffia, canneté or branded leather.
EO: Furthermore, our brand is inspired by all essential values for us, as Made in Italy production and Made in Genoa inspiration: quality, research, craftsmanship, great attention to detail. Having chosen to work exclusively with one of the most green and certified companies in the leather goods sector, we also wanted to include sustainability among our values: product. The project we are carrying out with Teseo, a centenary Como weaving mill, also follows upcycling logics as all the models are made with beautiful and precious archive deadstocks.
What do we find of Costanza and Elisa, of your world and of Genoa, your city, in the Connibì mini-buckets?
CB: In the maxi and medium buckets there are all the colors of Boccadasse, the district of Genoa characterized by pastel-colored houses narrow around a small bay. In the mini, however, the bright colors of summer and the sorbets of the Riviera.
And how important is the Made in Italy craftsmanship in your production?
EO: It’s essential. We started by producing our bags in full. We know the basics of craftsmanship, the tools for processing and we believe in handmade. To expand our production we had to partly rely on third parties, but we are always 100% on the project and we ensure that our collections maintain all the characteristics of the “handmade”.
Which woman do you turn to?
CB: We address an absolutely transversal and varied target. The bucket, by vocation, is a transgenerational model and our choice of declining it in various sizes and materials meets the taste of many women, who know and share the values promoted by a brand like ours.
Who are Costanza and Elisa in private life? Interests and passions in your free time?
EO: Personally I love classical art, while the passion for fashion and travel unites both.
CB: I am an entrepreneur and also a mother, my days are divided between these indisputable feelings of mine, the love for accessories and that for my daughter.
What do you dream for your future? And for that of Connibì?
CB / EO: First of all, we would like to continue growing together from a professional and personal point of view. For Connibì we pragmatically dream of expanding our e-commerce and increasing sales even outside Europe.
