21 million more: the state hospital will be much more expensive than planned – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – The new construction of the state hospital will be significantly more expensive. As the government announced on Wednesday, the planned costs will be exceeded by 21 million. Now a supplementary loan is needed. The project work has meanwhile been stopped.
“Currently, total costs of CHF 97.7 million are assumed for the new building.”
According to the current status, it can be assumed that the indexed commitment credit for the new building of the state hospital will be exceeded and that a supplementary credit will have to be applied for from the state parliament to continue the project, as the Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Wednesday. The project work has been stopped as a precaution. In addition, the ministry commissioned an audit to review the previous work and responsibilities in the construction project and to receive suggestions for measures to improve the process.
Additional Requirements
“The additional costs calculated by the specialist planners, amounting to around CHF 21.1 million compared to the indexed credit line based on a cost estimate, are primarily due to additional requirements from the user’s point of view and the framework conditions on the building site that have now been determined more precisely,” says in the message. “These were determined in the preliminary project and since the approval of the credit line by the people of Liechtenstein in November 2019.”
The state parliament originally approved a commitment loan of CHF 65.5 million for the new building, which can be adjusted to the construction cost index. In addition, the municipal council of Vaduz decided to support the construction of the hospital with CHF 7 million from the hospital construction fund. “The approved total amount of CHF 72.5 million corresponds to a total of CHF 76.6 million taking into account the construction cost index as of October 2021, although inflation between October 2021 and today has not yet been taken into account,” the government writes. “Currently, total costs of CHF 97.7 million are assumed for the new building.”
