Bolzano – The state government today approved the new additional contract with the Tirol Kliniken in Innsbruck.
The new contract with the Tiroler Kliniken states that in future the state will assume all of the personnel costs (except for overtime flat rates, on-call services, holiday services and night shifts) for young doctors undergoing specialist training at the Tirol Kliniken. In return, physicians exclusively die to work in South Tyrol after their training.
Provincial Governor Arno Kompatscher explains the importance of the cooperation: “The Tirol Kliniken are an important point of reference for South Tyroleans, both in terms of patient care and the training of healthcare professionals. With the new contract, which was drawn up under Provincial Councilor Thomas Widmann, we are extending the good cooperation and making it possible for young doctors to obtain a coveted training place for their specialist in Innsbruck”.
After completing their medical studies, young doctors must complete a specialization in order to work as specialists. For decades, the state of South Tyrol has been working together with the Tirol Kliniken to offer South Tyrolean doctors the opportunity to do their specialist training in Innsbruck. The state of South Tyrol for places for young doctors in various departments of the Tyrolean clinics, which are then awarded through a competition. Young doctors who take up this form of training have the opportunity to work for at least four years in the South Tyrolean medical service within ten years of completing their training.
The new additional contract also provides that doctors who complete their specialist training according to the Austrian model in the South Tyrolean medical facility can complete parts of their training at the Tyrolean clinics. This means, for example, doctors can cook at the Tiroler Kliniken for a few months to a year during their specialist training at the South Tyrolean medical service. This will improve the quality of the training and make it more attractive for South Tyrolean young doctors.
