Ukraine continues to insist on tougher EU sanctions against Russia and Belarusas well as complete closed access to ports and car network for the aggressor countries and their allies. At the same time, there is an active discussion on finding solutions for restoration of opportunities for the Ukrainian economy and establishing new logistics routes.
This was announced during an online meeting with the Head of the Directorate General for Transport of the European Commission Henrik Golol, posted Minister of Infrastructure Alexander Kubrakov.
“We have good news – finally at the highest level of the EU obtaining confirmation of the possibility of starting the process of liberalization of freight transit from Ukraine to the European Union. As in the case of the Agreement on the Common Aviation Area of Ukraine with the EU, it must be ratified by all member states, “said the Minister.
Thanks to this Ukraine can freely export to Western markets. The government is currently working to maintain the continuity of Ukraine’s logistics system, including railways and Danube ports. It was also decided to cover additional risks by the insurance company.
“In connection with the military aggression now only some Ukrainian seaports are fully operational. Their role in the new conditions is of the best importance. Therefore, it is accepted decision to provide compensation for charterers, operators, owners of seagoing and inland waterway vessels flying the flag of Ukraine and under the flags of foreign countries, ”explains Kubrakov.
According to the Minister, a similar compensation system applies to rolling stock owners and operatorsadmitted to circulation by the railways of the European standard during it on the territory of Ukraine.
Such a decision necessary for the redirection of cargo flows to major export markets new logistics chains. After all, before the war, 70-80% of the export turnover of basic cargo (grain, ore, ferrous metals, etc.) is through ports.
