Claressa Shields: Savannah Marshall can not knock me out
Claressa Shields was not impressed by Savannah Marshall’s victory over Femke Hermans on Saturday night.
Hermans was left completely defeated after a massive left hook from Marshall, and it starts a clash with Shields to decide the undisputed middleweight champion later in the year.
Shields was in the Utilita Arena in Newcastle to watch the show, but she told Sky Sports that there was not much to be afraid of from her point of view.
“Congratulations, that’s what you’re going to do,” Shields said Sky Sports.
“I said she would do it with Femke. I’m not Femke Hermans, I’m not Hannah Rankin, I’m not one of those girls she fought against.
“As much impact as she has, I’m sorry to say, if that’s what I have to look forward to, it will be an extinction.”
Shields discussed his own struggle with Hermans four years ago and said: “I went the distance with Femke four years ago. We fought four years ago, early in my career.
“She is [Marshall] will have problems with me and she will definitely not knock me out. “
When asked if Marshall has the heaviest hands in women’s boxing, Shields said: “No, she’s not, and you will see when I come back to the summer and show you that you must have power, you must have skill. You have to have all that.
“It just will not take her a single big blow to deal with me inside the ring. It will take a lot.
“Femke could make her miss and I’m 10 times faster than Femke, so what do you think I should do?”
However, Marshall believes that Shields will have little chance.
“There’s no one else in the way between me and Claressa, so it’s me and Claressa in the summer,” Marshall claimed.
“I know one hundred percent that Claressa can not handle my power. I know it will be a good night when I land on Claressa.
“It’s Britain against America, it’s always a big rivalry.
“It must happen here in the Northeast.”
