Sao Tome president carries out state visit to Portugal to reinforce reinforcement – Africa
The President Tomé e Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova, will carry out on the 5th and 6th of April, Portugal’s first state visit education, with a view to improving bilateral cooperation in the areas of health, defence, defense and culture.
“With Portugal, the objectives are many. As our relations are not simple relations of cooperation, we will develop what already exists, try to improve and eventually discover new areas, but they are cultural, they are historical, they are friendship”, said this Saturday Carlos Vila Nova speaking to the press at São Tomé International Airport.
In Portugal, Carlos Vila Nova has scheduled meetings with his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, with the prime minister, António Costa, and will also travel to the Assembly of the Republic and the Lisbon Chamber.
The Sao Tome head of state thought that “it is necessary to keep this [de amizade] so that in the countries, in the two peoples, there is, in fact, an improvement in cooperation” and said that he will “maximize this visit in order to bring the best results for São Tomé and Príncipe”.
“We have functional areas of cooperation that mainly health, education, are cultural, so that within this defense and scope there is a wide range of actions that we work to develop”, explained Carlos Vila Nova.
In December of last year, São Tomé and Príncipe and Portugal signed the new Strategic Cooperation Program (PEC) with an estimated value of 60 euros for years, being prioritized as areas of health, education and culture, social protection, work and training. profession, justice, security and defence, agriculture, fisheries, energy and environment, public finance, economy and infrastructure.
“Within this framework of strategic cooperation program we are going to build as areas to develop in terms of project”, said the Sao Tome head of state.
During his official visit to São Tomé and Príncipe, in December, the Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, praised the results of bilateral cooperation with the archipelago, highlighting the areas of health and defense.
“I want to reaffirm to the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe all our functioning at operational levels and, if so, to develop them”, stated António Costa.
