Country has less debt than feared

In the past year, the state of Salzburg incurred only a quarter of the originally calculated debt. Instead of 413 million, only 95 million euros would remain in new debt, as reported by the Salzburger Nachrichten. After eight years, the level of debt is still increasing slightly for the first time – to one billion and 248 million euros.

The lockdowns and the measures against the virus were particularly expensive. As a result, 77 million were lost in the state budget. The state gets the largest part back from the federal government from its tax money. Vaccination and test costs are fully reimbursed.
Healthcare is by far the most expensive
The hospital, care, illness and health sector is generally the largest budget item in the province of Salzburg. It quickly devours one billion out of a total of three and a half billion euros. Stöckl no longer sees any savings potential here.
