Motor Passion 2022 in Avignon, under the sign of competition
After 2 years of absence, we dreamed of returning to a salon in Avignon. It was with the Motor Passion 2022 that it happened this weekend! We find this essential show with a new name but still the same format that has made it so successful: thematic exhibitions, clubs, spare parts, sellers of miniatures and accessories, restorers or sellers of vintage cars… to sum up everything for clear to enthusiasts of old vehicles.
The Amilcar centenary
As for the exceptional exhibitions devoted to competition, we started with the 100th anniversary of Amilcar, a brand that disappeared during the 2th war, shortly after its takeover by Hotchkiss. As soon as you enter hall A, 2 beautiful rows of Amilcars with racing bodywork reveal themselves in front of us, type C6/CO from 1928, type CG and CC from 1922, type CS and CGS from 1924 and type CO from 1927.

Two Type CGSS models, for Chassis Grand Sport Surbaissé, are also on display, one of which has a more streamlined grille in the shape of a ploughshare and designed by the coachbuilder Duval. An Amilcar Type G36 Pégase which distinguished itself in the Reims Grand Prix in 1936 completes this line-up.
In all, more than fifteen sports or tourism cars from this French manufacturer are exhibited in hall A. You can still admire a 1933 Amilcar Type C3 and a luxury 13 CV model, the 1931 CS8 with these 8 cylinders in line which can reach a speed of 120 km/h.
Nougier motorcycles in the spotlight
The Motor Passion 2022 paid tribute to the brothers Jean and Henri Nougier, creators of racing motorcycles from 1932 to 1972. In their workshop based in St Andiol in the Bouches du Rhône, they produced fabulous prototypes mainly on Terrot or Magnat bases. Good.
Other motorcycles were also completely built from scratch with the dream of beating renowned brands in the Grand Prix of the World Championship.
With more than 40 motorcycles to their credit, these French craftsmen have succeeded in their challenge, 4 world records and 5 French championship titles.
Tribute to the Grand Prix d’Avignon
Still in the central aisle of hall A, the race imposes itself on visitors. The Friends of the Circuit d’Avignon Vaucluse Association offered a beautiful line-up of 8 vehicles representative of those who raced during the Grands Prix d’Avignon Vaucluse.
From 1989 to 1994, this association organized retrospectives on the historic route of the Allées de l’Oulle International Speed Circuit.
Gordini type 15, Cisitalia D46, Rally Type ABC, Bugatti Type 51, BNC Type 527, Delahaye 135S, Maserati 6CM and Bugatti type 57 Tank, were then running on the circuit of the Avignonnaise event.
If we go back to the Nougier motorcycles, in 1946 Henri Nougier took part in the Grand Prix d’Avignon on the handlebars of a 250 cm3 Nougier/Magnat Debon.

60 years of the Jaguar E-Type
Deprived of a show in 2021, the legendary Jaguar E-Type celebrated its birthday a year late. Five examples from 1962 to 1971 including a Semi Lightweight and a V12 exceed the range.
The centerpiece of this exhibition, the 1960 Jaguar E2A prototype, sat in the middle of the main hall of Motor Passion 2022.

A platform dedicated to the Group B rally
The Group B stand plunged us back into those crazy years when the race for power left no room for safety, 300 hp cars delivered like bullets on the winding roads lined with aficionados.
But who never wanted to be in Kankkunen’s place at the wheel of the 205 T16 Evo 2, and its 430 hp to win the 1986 season. These monsters of the road have made us forget the modest Mazda team, which with an engine Bi-rotor Wankel won 3rd place on the podium during the Acropolis Rally in 1985, behind the 4-wheel drive.
The club stands
Like every year, Motor Passion 2022 served as a showcase for many clubs in the region. Some, like the 203 club, always compete in imagination to offer us each time a new staging.

Fewer parts stands
Our disappointment was with the much fewer spare parts stands this year. We notice the absence of the big brands of spare parts for old cars. Unfortunately, this trend has already appeared since Epoqu’Auto last fall and revealed itself to Reims then to Retromobile. Some pros no longer find interest in trade shows, it’s a shame for everyone.
The specificity of the Avignon fair is generally the multitude of occasional resellers, we also noticed that they were less numerous. Ditto on the side of the halls of miniatures and other accessories as well as the dealers of cars or peripheral products which were not plethora either.
Utilities in value
The tractor hall was well stocked with a fine display of single-cylinder engines such as this Percheron Type A from 1949, a copy of the Lanz HN3 Tractor, or this Argentinian IAME Pampa also inspired by a Lanz, the Bulldog D 1506. An impressive specimen of Lanz Bulldog is stood out in the middle of this agricultural hall.

Another hall housed Land Rovers and trucks. Bonifay transport and their gleaming vehicles are faithful to this event.
The association Mémoire de Poilus reconstituted a car repair workshop from the 1before war rubbing shoulders with the world of horse-drawn carriages with guns and carts, as at the time.

The 2th the war was well represented by the Tank Engineers Division association with jeep, GMC and an accessorized Sherman tank like the one from the movie Fury. The latter consumed hundreds of liters of fuel just to reach his pit. Right next to it, a Citroën Type 23 “flat wings” truck, decorated with FFI, also attracted everyone’s attention.

This edition of Motor Passion 2022 is aimed at enthusiasts of old vehicles of all kinds with as well as the reception of beautiful thematic platforms. However, we regretted the smaller number of clubs and coin dealers present. Hopefully this is just a post-covid transition year as well as the hallmark of a new living room.
