A 43-year-old man was tried by the Court of Assizes, in Caen (Calvados)Tuesday March 29 and Wednesday March 30, 2022, for the murder of the person who hosted him, in December 2018. The jurors sentenced him to 22 years of criminal imprisonmentwith a security period of 11 years.
With a bottle of whiskey
As in the case studied the previous week, they considered that Gérald* had intentionally killed Yannick*, on the evening of December 19, 2018. While he was staying with the latter, in his apartment on avenue Henry-Chéron, in the Venoix district of Caen, he had hit him many times with a bottle of whisky.
The experts noted “15 to 20 blows”, wounds on the forehead, bruises on the arms, the upper lip split up to the nose. Yannick’s body showed no trace of defence. He would have been dying while Gerald had fallen asleep.
For any explanation, the accused argued that he had “freaked a cable”, but without knowing the reason for this nervousness.
The family in misunderstanding
The two men had both consumed a lot of alcohol and suffered from bipolar disorder. Yannick used to welcome homeless people, as was the case with Gérald at that time. The forties, originally from Argences, had led a life studded with several stays in a psychiatric hospital and in prison.
Yannick’s mother and daughter, who were civil parties in the trial, will unfortunately never know why he was killed at the age of 41.
