Mariupol: Testimony of a journalist
On March 31, 2022, the 36th day of war in Ukraine, Anna Murlykina, journalist from Mariupol, testified from a place of war, during a webinar organized by the Group of Friends on the safety of journalists and media freedom in Strasbourg and the Council of Europe.
Anna Murlykina was born and raised in Mariupol. In 2008, she became the editor of Mariupol’s only independent media at the time – the www.0629.com.ua portal. Since then, she has not stopped working at the portal, including during the events of 2014, trying to counter Russian propaganda.
The event will be opened by Roeland Böcker, Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe, Chairman of the Group of Friends on the Safety of Journalists and Media Freedom and Ricardo Gutierrez, Secretary General of the European Federation of Journalists.
Closing remarks will be delivered by Artemiza-Tatiana Chisca, Head of Media and Internet Governance Division of the Council of Europe and Mårten Ehnberg, Permanent Representative of Sweden to the Council of Europe, Vice-Chair of the Group of Friends on Safety of Journalists and Freedom of the Media.
The moderator of the event is Galyna Smirnova from the Kyiv Office of the Council of Europe.
